Investing Tonight Show (ITS) with NUS
We recently visited the National University of Singapore for our fourth iteration of the Investing Tonight Show!
We're excited to host our fourth Investing Tonight Show (ITS) this year! Building on the success of our first few sessions with the SMU Sustainable Investment Club and North London Collegiate School, we recently visited the National University of Singapore. NUS is ranked consistently as one of the world's top universities and offers extensive college degree courses in Singapore.

On September 11, 2024, we were thrilled to host our inaugural Investing Tonight Show (ITS) - Venture Capital edition with the students.
We kicked the session off with Persis, our Business Manager introducing Next Gen and our guest speaker, Tiffany. Tiffany, graduated from the University of Oxford, is the co-founder of Next Gen Investors Endowment and serves as a professional investor in Star Magnolia Capital.
Tiffany then took over and dived into the traits that Venture Capitalists look for in founders before investing in a company. She tailored her insights for the students, making it easy for non-business students to understand while still meaningful for knowledgeable individuals. Tiffany also gave real-life examples of companies that succeeded, such as FabUnion, PickUp Coffee, and many more.
During the session, we assigned the students to read Chapter 35-38 of INVEST!, which delves into Mr Yang imparting the qualities he looks for as a founder. This chapter explores the challenges an entrepreneur will face and the need to be able to step out of their comfort zone and do what others won't. Following the reading, we facilitated group discussions where the students discussed what they've learned or found useful. It was a personal discussion and everyone applauded after each sharing.
We swapped things around this time with Pictionary as our second act, so that we could ensure the students were familiar with the Venture Capital concepts. Pictionary is very straightforward as its name suggests. We used action cards that are Venture Capital related and students have to draw out these terms for their teams to guess.
All good things come to an end. Please find some of the feedback from the students after the session:
Do check out our Substack for more information about Next Gen, as we also post about different things, like quarterly letters from our club leaders, or initial memos on companies that our members have researched on.
If you have any enquiries or wish to find out more, please write in to admin@genzclub.org and we will be very glad to connect.
