Here's to the first MTI Live of 2023!
On 22 February 2023, the Z Club got a healthy mid-week boost at the beautiful office of ProsperUs as we gathered to learn from our two distinguished speakers on how to conduct great investment research and writing.
Overlooking the central business district of Singapore with its brightly lit skyline, our hearts burned even brighter as we soaked in the warmth of each other's company and the exchange of knowledge that we so enjoy.
ProsperUs is CGS-CIMB Securities' digital investment platform created for millennials, by millennials. They have a strong purpose to empower individuals and communities to make better investment decisions for a sustainable future and therefore are committed to bringing investor education to the forefront of all that they do.
Our very first live Meet the Investor session of 2023 kicked off with Persis HOO, Business Manager of Next Gen Investors Endowment, giving an introduction to the Z Club and Next Gen. Next Gen shares strong alignment with ProsperUs in our vision to help everyone kickstart their investors' journey.
Chee Siang CHEW (EIP Class of 2023) then conducted an insightful and engaging interview of Tim PHILLIPS and Ser Jing CHONG as they shared their investors' journey, research and writing process and view of the current market. Tim is the Head of Content & Investment Lead at ProsperUs while Ser Jing is the Portfolio Manager & Co-Founder of Compounder Fund at Galilee Investment Management Pte Ltd, and is also a writer at The Good Investors. Tim and Ser Jing were ex-colleagues at The Motley Fool Singapore, a company that produced
Chee Siang covered questions such as:
What is your writing process like when presenting complex investment topics, such that its accessible and understandable for a wide audience?
As experienced content writers yourselves, what are your favourite sources of investment content?
Can you describe any notable investments you have made in the past, and what you learned from those experiences?
Can you discuss the most intriguing challenges or opportunities you see in the current investment landscape?

When Rui Hong from ProsperUs took the stage to introduce the platform, none of us expected such an entertaining presentation! Who can forget Jia Yang SIM's (EIP Class of 2024) sporting interaction with Rui Hong as he was the only one who went up to claim the prize by paying Rui Hong a compliment ;) #iykyk
Nevertheless, we were certainly thrilled to learn about the perks of using ProsperUs and try out their smooth interface.
Finally, our last speaker for the night (Harry CH'NG, CFO & Deputy CIO of MoneyOwl) wrapped up the MTI by introducing MoneyOwl to the group. MoneyOwl is a NTUC social enterprise that aims to empower everyone to live life to the fullest by helping us make wise money decisions easily and confidently. They are also proud to be Singapore’s 1st Bionic Financial Adviser! Keep a look out because we may cross paths with them in the coming months...
One of the best things about live MTI sessions are the opportunities to interact with each other and make new friends. For example, we had Zhouqi LIAN (VIP Greater China Chapter Class of 2023) attend the session as he is in Singapore for a few months. It was everyone's first time meeting him!
We cannot forget a shoutout to ProsperUs for catering awesome bites! We certainly received delicious feedback on that!
