Sector Review - Additive Manufacturing
EIP Monthly Portfolio Update
We had two power-packed sessions on 29 Jan 2023.
First, Rebecca YANG (CIO, VIP IC) brought us through some research and analysis of the additive manufacturing industry (think 3D printing and the like).
Catch the replay here:
You may also refer to the deck created by Rebecca here for more information.
Following that, EIP also had their monthly portfolio update. Catch up with each team here:
Hiking at Macritchie Reservoir
Yup, on 4 Feb 2023, we conquered 10.5km of mud and forest before rewarding ourselves with some hearty prata and maggi goreng! Thank you Sooria and Jiayang for planning this hiking expedition for us! It was so good to catch up with the team and meet people who were back from exchange too (shoutout to Richard YANG, EIP 2023)!
Breakfast with Asia School of Business
We were connected to some folks from the Asia School of Business (in collaboration with MIT Sloan Management) and had breakfast together on 7 Feb 2023. So glad to have Rebecca YANG and Dean TAY (EIP 2024) join in!
ASB is an innovative MBA program based in Kuala Lumpur. That morning, we spoke with Fabian Vera, the Student Body Co-President and Finance Club Co-President, and the rest of his friends hailing from the USA, Malaysia, Mexico and Kazakhstan.
It was eye-opening to hear the stories of how all of them came to study in Malaysia, so far from their homes, and the dreams and aspirations they have after graduating with their MBA. One story from the Mexican Professor really stuck with me. He said that in Mexico, a professor or educator's job is looked down upon. They are paid poorly, and the job is seen as a last resort. Students aren't motivated, teachers aren't too. Therefore he wishes to leave the country and further his education, earn money abroad and then return to Mexico to spend it. His story made me appreciate the education system in Singapore and realise the difference it makes to a country's progress when educators are valued and honoured as they should. Mexico is probably complicated and its education system is just a piece of the puzzle. However, it was refreshing to hear the experience of a Mexican man seeking greener pastures across the globe.
Join us next time - it is always worthwhile to meet new friends and build new relationships!
