World Of Allocators Singapore - Being Sustainable, Responsible, and Profitable
Our member, Finian Saw, attended the World of Allocators event moderated by our co-founder, Shinya Deguchi.
On May 27, 2024, World of Allocators-Singapore (WOA-SG) hosted the "Being Sustainable, Responsible, and Profitable" event at the Phillip Nova office, which featured professional investors Matt O’Sullivan, former Head of Asia Pacific Private Investments for M&G, Kenneth Ho, Head of Thematic Research and ESG Management, and was moderated by Shinya Deguchi.
Shinya began by introducing WOA-SG, a community offering global access to educational events for professional investors. He noted the smaller, more intimate setting of this session as compared to prior events, which turned out to have fostered active participation and meaningful dialogue.
Matt opened the discussion by outlining three primary concerns in sustainable investments:
Profitability: Can investors achieve good returns with sustainable assets?
Greenwashing: The challenge of maintaining credibility in sustainable investments
Additionality: Ensuring genuine impact
As Matt introduced the first concern about profitability, it sparked an interactive discussion with both Matt and Kenneth fielding numerous questions from the engaged event participants. Kenneth shared insights on various topics, including practical tips on how to evaluate sustainability performances, the extent of ESG integration in investment strategies, and the diffusion of ESG. Both speakers also delved into the performance of sustainable investments and the unique challenges and opportunities of ESG investments in the APAC region.
The evening concluded with a lively networking session, where participants continued their discussions and forged valuable connections.
The "Being Sustainable, Responsible, and Profitable" event showcased the meaningfulness of interactive and engaging dialogue. It provided attendees with deep insights into sustainable investments, reinforcing WOA-SG’s commitment to advancing knowledge and practices in the field of sustainable investing.
Many thanks to Phillip Nova for kindly providing the venue for the event.
Keep a lookout for more meaningful WOA-SG events and in the spirit of fostering a community of learning and sharing, all members of WOA-SG are welcome and encouraged to be speakers for future events!
